Swimming is an integral part of almost every school’s sports programme in Term 1. Many Secondary schools stage their own events at school pools or local community pools. Most school swimming days are a mixture of particpation and compettive events usually undertaken with some festivity as part of the school’s house systems.

On a district level, there are a number of interschool zones staging local championships before the very competitive  Waikato Secondary Schools Championships are hosted by Swimming Waikato.
