14 Mar St Peter’s Cambridge are North Island Secondary Schools Rowing CHAMPIONS!
St Peter’s Cambridge won the Derbyshire Shield for Overall Champion School at the North Island Secondary School Rowing Championships held at Lake Karapiro, Cambridge from Friday 8 March-Sunday 10 March 2019.
Despite some challenging weather conditions on Friday, the team raced well to make 29 A Finals, 9 B Finals, and 4 C Finals. Nearly all 77 teams made it through to a final, which was a wonderful achievement. Overall the team came home with 8 golds, 6 silvers, and 3 bronze medals, along with the Derbyshire Shield (61 points). Hamilton Boys’ High School finished 2nd with 52 points and Westlake Boy’s High School in 3rd on 22 points.
The team now moves forward to focusing on the New Zealand Secondary Schools Rowing Championships, more commonly known as MAADI, which is scheduled during Summer Tournament Week from Monday 25 March-Saturday 30 March 2019.
