Term 2 has been full of Regional Secondary School Championships. With Winter sports just beginning, our young athletes have been keeping busy!
Golf
The Waikato secondary schools Match-Play Champs started off our Term 2 competitions. Cambridge High Schools, Matthew Prinsloo took out the Boys Stroke and Baylee Ross from St Peters Schools won the Girls Stroke Play. Overall winner of the Inter Collegiate Match-Play Champs was Hunter Ussher from Whangamata Area School. Next up was the Inter-Collegiate Teams Championship Day where Matamata College team #1 took out first place, the team consisted of Corey Bell, Marcus Day-Fallon, Jakson Day-Fallon, and Teacher in Charge Logan Allen. Second and Third place was Hamilton Boys High School (HBHS), 2nd place was team #7 (Mr Kuggeleijn, Jackson Botherway, Snehith Devireddy and Tom Cooley) and third place was held by team #3 (Mitchell Barker, Hamish Douglas, Joel Gurnell, Cameron Verry.) Finally, the Inter-Collegiate Champs Day held on 21st May, the Individual Gros Winner was Matthew Prinsloo who has had an impressive season this year, with a total gross score of 69. Cross Country
Cross Country is another sport which had a fantastic season this term. The first Cross Country event to kick off the season was the Central Zone Secondary School Individual and Teams Championship , held at Tauhara Park with over 150 rangatahi participating. Next up was the Thames Valley Secondary School Championships, and finally the Waikato Bay of Plenty Secondary School Championships where more than 250 students from the Waikato region participated! SwimmingÂ
Over 250 rangatahi gathered at the Waterworld Aquatic Centre on the 30th of May to represent their schools in the Waikato Secondary School Swimming Championships. A hugely successful event saw Waikato Diocesan School awarded the Top Girls Team, and Hamilton Boys High School claiming the titles of Top Boys Team, and Top Overall Team on the day.
